Delete your account

Effective 1 May 2026

Grease takes deletion requests seriously. This page explains what gets deleted, what is retained and for how long, and the two ways to start a deletion.

This is irreversible. Once a deletion is processed we cannot recover your jobs, customers, vehicles, photos, or invoices. Export your data first if you want a copy — instructions are below.

1. From inside the portal (recommended)

Workshop super-admins can self-serve a deletion at any time:

  • Sign in at app.grease.ng/login.
  • Open Settings → Workshop → Danger zone.
  • Click Delete workshop, type the workshop name to confirm, and submit.

Staff users (technician, supervisor, store officer) can request their own user record be deleted from Profile → Delete my account. This removes you from your workshop's staff list but does not delete the workshop's customer or job records — only the workshop super-admin can request that.

2. By email

If you cannot sign in, send a deletion request from the email address on the account to hello@grease.ng with the subject line "Account deletion request". Include:

  • The workshop name or slug (e.g. bamikale-autos).
  • Your full name as it appears on the account.
  • The phone number on the account, if you remember it.
  • Whether you want a final data export before deletion (JSON or CSV).

We verify the request matches the account on file and reply with a confirmation within 5 business days. The deletion completes within 30 days of confirmation.

What gets deleted

  • Your user record (name, email, phone, hashed password).
  • Your workshop record and all branches under it.
  • Every customer and vehicle record your workshop created.
  • Every job, inspection, parts log, and invoice.
  • All inspection photos and PDF invoices stored on Cloudflare R2.
  • Push-notification tokens for any device you signed in on.

What we keep, and why

A small amount of data is retained even after deletion, for the reasons below. Each item has a hard expiry — none of it is kept indefinitely.

  • Anonymised audit trail — we keep a record that the deletion happened, by whom, and on which date. The user's identity is replaced with a hash. Retained for 12 months.
  • Payment records — for tax and accounting compliance, invoices and payment receipts are kept for 7 years as required by Nigerian tax law. Personal data on these records (name, email) is minimised wherever possible.
  • Crash reports — anonymised diagnostics in Sentry are purged within 90 days under the existing retention policy.
  • Email delivery logs — purged from Resend within 30 days under the existing retention policy.

Export your data first

Before deletion, you can download a full copy from Settings → Workshop → Export data in the portal. Exports are provided as JSON (machine-readable) or CSV (per-table spreadsheets). If you have already lost portal access, ask for an export in your email request.

Help us improve

We want to know why you are leaving. A short note in your deletion email — even one sentence — helps us fix the problem for the next workshop. This is optional and does not affect your request.

Questions about a deletion in flight? hello@grease.ng — we usually reply same day.
